Snow Days and Good Books

Look what old man Winter brought our way today! I know this is not a new thing to many of you, but those of us who grew up in the South aren't very used to seeing the white stuff around here. It's a novelty for sure. From the news reports, just about the whole state got some flurries and a few inches, as well as Georgia.
So, of course I had to document it for the records. This is definitely the first snow we've had since we moved here 2 years ago and we were trying to remember the last snow we got in the Southeast. I know it's been a few years. After a mild start to our Winter, we weren't sure we would get any blustery weather this year. It's cold...and a great day to stay inside and snuggle down with some good books.
You can see it's not very much snow really, but the kids all around us sure had fun playing in it. This is our frontyard after it stopped snowing.
The kids next door managed to put together a pretty awesome snowman, in spite of the rather sparse amount of snow we have on the ground. I don't think it will last long.
So, I'm really glad I took the opportunity to stop by the library and pick up some books to read last week. This kind of weather is just the best for cozying up in a chair or on the sofa with lots of books around. From fiction to non-fiction, decorating to beauty, I think I'll be set for a couple of weeks reading material.

Jodi Picoult was recommended to me, so I'm trying her out for the first time, as was Anne George, who writes the Southern Sisters novels. Anyone read those? They are set in the South (this first one I picked up is in Birmingham) and it's quite entertaining to read a novel that names all the places in the city you live, like Vulcan, Mountain Brook, Red Mountain. Entertaining mystery with Southern camp thrown in, I think I'll enjoy them.

Natalee Holloway was a Mountain Brook girl from Birmingham, so I picked up this book that her dad wrote. She disappeared just a few months before we moved to Birmingham & this case drew me in from the beginning. It has been such a tragedy that her disappearance has never been solved and I have always felt badly for her parents. It is such a shame that the Aruban government did not get to the bottom of this case!

Flea Market Style, Southern Style, and a Lynette Jennings (remember her?) book! Oh yeah, I think I'll be busy for awhile. I've read about The Beauty Bible author online, so this one sounds interesting too. All about beauty products and who doesn't need more tips in that area?

OH! And wait til you see the new diningroom light fixture I found on Friday in Homewood! It is absolutely perfect, a great deal & I just got it hung up there today. I can't wait to tell you all about it...it is gorgeous! Yes, I have been a busy girl!

I'm so looking forward to reading more books this year. When you're working, there's hardly time to do that and I dearly love to read. I can see a hot cup of chocolate and a throw in my future! Are you reading anything good this month?
