Decorating with Plates

Do y'all like plates as much as I do? I seem to have collected plates for many years now & have them in just about every room of the house. Seems I can't get enough, as I just found these 4 on clearance at Homegoods (for $3 each) and I had to go back & get them. I did have some of my green bunny plates up here in my office nook, but this seems like a good spot for the new ones. I love the delicate damask pattern & the colors are so pretty, an almost chartreuse limey green, with an aqua band. They would look pretty on a tablescape too.
Black & white is a great combo with lime green, so these in my laundryroom are a nice mix in with all the garden things. The middle green one came from a yardsale & I think the small black/white ones came from Ross.

I could not resist these red/white Spode plates when they were on clearance at Homegoods for $4 each, so I bought 4 of them & they are hanging in my foyer in pairs.
This is one of my yardsale finds from earlier this year. There was a set of 3 & this one happened to be a duplicate, so I kept it & added it to my somewhat tropical British Colonial guestbath, where it is right at home. This whole vignette is made up of yardsale finds over the years, including the little glass topped shelf.
Another Raymond Waites plate, this one was a gift from an online buddy several years ago & it's also in the guestbath.
I just adore black & white & these plates called my name from TJ Maxx, I think. I could move them to several places in the house & they would look great. Another green yardsale plate in the middle.
My dear mother-in-law gifted me with this blue/white Commander's Palace plate. I didn't even know what it was when I got it, but found out that it is a famous restaurant in New Orleans. It adds a lot of charm to this table & since I don't have a lot of blue/white in the livingroom, really stands out.
And, I have shared my green bunny Bordallo dishes with you before, but this is one of my favorite plates collections. I have several different types of these plates & enough to actually set the table & use.
More black & white, this time with toile design & these came from Garden Ridge many years ago.
Raymone Waites again...these fruit plates were a favorite among some of my online friends a few years ago & I still haven't gotten tired of them. These are in the diningroom. Since I only found 2 of them at a decent price, I added the small fruit print in the middle rack & I really like the combo, instead of the expected set of 3.
I've showed these before too, but I have several blue/white plates in the bedroom that I found at Homegoods. That is a great store to find plates & their clearance prices can't be beat!
These pretty blue/green plates are a real favorite of mine too. There was a neat store in Atlanta that I used to shop at sometimes called Hill Street Warehouse. They had the neatest dishes & all sorts of imported pottery pieces. Sometimes they marked them down & you could find some decent prices. I bought these 3 and have used them several places over the years. Right now they are in the downstairs guestbath. I love the combo of the delicate colors in these particular plates. And, as you can see, this is where the yardsale wooden bird ended up. Isn't he adorable here? Hope you enjoyed the plate tour!

I've been busily painting furniture this week & have finished up the TV cabinet & bookcase & they are now in hubby's office. It really is looking great in there & as soon as I get the window treatment up (and it gets straighted up some!), I'll post some pics! I'm working on that nightstand today & should have it finished shortly too. Hope you're all having a great weekend! Thanks again for stopping by...I do enjoy hearing from y'all!

My word, you do LOVE plates don't you? How creative you are. I love all that you use them all over your house! My mom is a dish fanatic, I need to show her this post!

I love decorating with plates also. Sometimes I wonder if I go overboard, but then I realize I like how it looks. I recently hung several plates that came from my grandmother's house in my dining room. I love how it looks.

My father has an extensive blue and white collection. Just yesterday, he moved into my sister's house. I took several of his plates and combined them with his vintage photos to make a nice arrangement on the wall. It looks lovely in there, even against the khaki walls. Very masculine too. He loved the finished product!

Thanks for sharing the pictures!

I love plates too! I think they look so homey and add something that pictures don't (I guess that round shape!) I haven't hung as many as I plan to yet, because our house needed so much work when we moved in, but I have them all stashed away ready to go up and I can't wait.

I have had trouble lately finding plate hangers, I think they are not as common as they used to be. I have also tried to find a horizontal plate hanger to go above doorways, and that has proved to be more challenging than I thought. When I do find them they aren't as pretty as I wish they were.

Thanks for sharing today!

Of course I love those RW fruit plates! I am glad to see you still love yours as much as I love mine! I remember when everyone was making copies of mine to decoupage a few years back. Fun memory! And, those damask plates you've found are just delicious!

Oh, yay! SO many creative ideas! I love plates but never buy them because I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them... well, now I do! One question: when you buy, how do you decide how many? DO you know in advance where you're going to use them? Do you usually buy the same # (2, 3, 4)?

WOW! I don't think I've ever seen so many plates on a walls! They're all very pretty; I think the plates in the first pic are my faves. I'm not a plate-as-decor person in my home; it really struck me as odd the first time I saw someone's tableware on their walls and I wondered if they take them off the wall when it's time to eat - lol! Someone had to explain to me that they're used as artwork. Silly me! Yours are very lovely and very Rhoda!

I love the look of decorating with plates as well. I used to have a lot of them up in my other house, but I haven't put them all up here. Not as much wall space as I had before, but you've inspired to to try and find a new little spots to display some.

By the way, I love the colour you've painted some of your rooms. I realize that colours don't come through the same on the computer, but what paint colours did you use in your foyer, bedroom, and dining room. On my computer screen they look like just the colours I'm wanting!

Love plates! My son says I've over-done it with the plates but he's 11, what does he know?

I was hanging some in my bedroom today and while banging the nail on the wall, my hangings in my bathroom got rattled fell and broke (I wanted to cry- I cried!) Now that spot is empty and I couldn't figure out what to replace my hangings with. I thought plates, but my son's words and the fact I didn't think plates would look good in a bathroom put a stopper on that thought. Now reading you post, I might re-open that idea!

Wow. I'm still stuck on the display in your laundry room. I simply can't comprehend that -- my washer and dryer are in the dingiest, darkest, most spider-infested part of our unfinished basement!!

Hi Rhoda Angela at Cottagemagpie referenced your plates so Ihad to take a look for myself. I love plates too! Most of mine have come from garage sales over the years. I first only had blue & white but now I have many different colors. You and I have very similar tastes in decorating. I think you said that once in a comment to me also!!
