A Game Day Condo

It's Fall and football in Alabama is serious business. Just ask anyone in this state who they are pulling for and you will quickly hear which side they are on. It's either Alabama or Auburn and there is not a lot of in-between. Alabamians love their football and I quickly found out how much when we moved over here almost 3 years ago. My hubby....he is a Tide fan through and through. There are many mixed marriages in Alabama, I've found out.

Meet my friend, Lynn, and her son, Barrett. Lynn is my friend who has the monogram business (and who did all my fabulous monograms!) and I helped her put together all the fabrics for their game-day condo at Auburn University. Their youngest son, Barrett, signed with Auburn as a quarterback and is a freshman this year. Needless to say, they will be spending lots of time at Auburn this football season, even though Barrett is red-shirted this year (which means he won't be playing in the games), but will be doing plenty of practicing. They're excited about their new space.
I had no idea what a game-day condo was until Lynn told me. I've been out of the loop on college football, so this was all new to me. Here are a few before pics so you can see how bland the space was.
This condo is really a studio and the first thing they did was take out this little wall which separated the space. Since it's not going to be lived in full-time, they put in a daybed and opened the room up more. Lynn and I went fabric shopping and I helped her pull it all together. She had already picked out a cream sofa and a contemporary chair with a geometric pattern, so that was our starting point.
This is the BEFORE on the cabinets. They painted them all white. Lynn wanted to bring in orange (of course!) to the condo, but do it tastefully. I think she succeeded in doing just that.
AFTER: The condo got new flooring, paint on the walls, and all new furniture brought in. All the fabrics really pulled it together and I was so happy to see the pics of how it turned out. We found the rug at Homegoods and both lamps were on clearance from there too. Lynn made the drapes and pillows. We found a really neat contemporary oil painting at Homegoods that was mainly orange tones & it hangs over the sofa. Wish we had a photo of that.
The kitchen cabinets were painted white. See the cute little Aubie lamp she picked up? Their mascot is the tiger.
Just painting the cabinets made a big difference.
They put in recessed lighting too to really bring it up to date. This is the contemporary chair we worked the colors off of and that's the daybed in the back under the windows.
A tiny space, but wow, does it look 100 times better.
Lynn even put some monogrammed towels in the bathroom, along with the shower curtain she made. I think it turned out fabulous. Hope you enjoyed going along to the game-day condo too!

You may see Barrett Trotter on TV one day throwing the winning touchdown for Auburn.

ATTN: Birmingham girls...I'm having a yardsale at my house on Saturday, October 11th, so if anyone wants to come, email me for directions. I'll have some lamps, artwork, possibly bed linens, and misc. accessories, but no furniture. You're welcome to stop by to see if I have any treasures you might want! It will start at 8 a.m.

I really enjoyed this post (as I have become a hardcore Auburn fan) and the little condo looks AMAZING! The rug is perfect.
I will actually be staying over night in Birmingham Sunday night (I need to email Judy) so I can either meet you at Homegoods Monday morning, or your house...whichever works the best for you! :-)

Wow....that is amazing how good the redo turned out. I love the colors in the living room. The "before" cabinets look just like my cabinets.....very boring. It is amazing what a little white paint will do. I would love to paint my cabinets white but I am a little nervous about doing it myself.

Wow! I love the space - especially because it's Auburn! And, to know a blogger who has a friend whose son signed... does that make me special? HA!

The condo turned out great! I love the Tiger lamp in the kitchen. My family are huge Tide fans. You should have seen them dressed up for the game, and they were only watching it from home! I am talking black under the eyes, knees wrapped up, jersey's on, houndstooth jewelry...sparkly crimson and white hair bows. It's wild during football season. We on the other hand here are Gator fans! : )

I will have to find out where this yard sale is going to be! We are planning on being up there for Kayla's fall break. We go to the Baker Farm pumpkin patch every year. Stopping by your yard sale, that would be the icing on the cake!

Hi Rhoda -
What a wonderful little condo. The transformation was fantastic! It turned out to be such a great little place. Thanks for sharing it with us. Wish I could stop by your sale this weekend but it's much too far to drive from Oregon to your neighborhood. Hope you'll share it with us soon.

What a fun place to have! I really love the way she brought the tasteful shades of orange in. It is a really simple but lovely space.
We have had several friends with family at Auburn over the last several years and game day spaces are quite popular. I guess since my Kenzie-Grace wants to go there to play basketball (this Georgia fan is quite disappointed) we'll have one someday as well.
Have a great weekend!

I can't believe Peter let you even post those pictures~ LOL
We have one of those mixed marriages. Although after all these years Bill is easing up a bit. You still won't catch him wearing orange!

I've never heard of a game day condo, either. But you and your friend did an amazing job with it! It's so cozy now!
I wish I lived in your area - I definitely be coming to your sale. :)

What a fun space! I love the way it looks. So, is it just a space to hang out before and after the game? It's so cute. We are among the few, though, that are not team specific. Just not sports people at our house.

And I wish I could come to the yard sale, but I'm going to have one on the same day. I've got so many decorating cast offs, that I really need to clean out my space. Hope we have good weather!!

That is a perfect place for football game weekends! And how wonderful her son gets to play! I have to tell you though that my husband was in a funk for a few days after Bama came to town last weekend. He's a UGA alumni. He was sad... very sad.

I would love to have a Game Day Condo! You can never find a good hotel unless you get one further away from the stadium or you book one way in advance. We just don't get to go down to The Plains as much as we want.

So people buy condos just to stay the night in after a game? Or am I way off? Is that expensive??!!

Please don't laugh at me and call me Yankee!!

Ahhh man. I Love it. No really I do.
About the garage sale - I wish I lived near there.

Kelli, Lynn passed on the paint colors for you. They are both Ben. Moore colors. The cabinets are Sugar Cookie and the wall color is Oklahome Wheat.

For those of you who don't know what a game-day condo is...don't feel bad. I didn't either. And yes, it is a place to hang out for the games before and after. They go down & spend the weekend at Auburn on all the home games. And now that their son is on the team, they will have 4 years of this, so I guess it is worth it!

Glad you all enjoyed looking. I wish you could all come to my yardsale too. I don't have a ton of stuff, but enough that I think I need to have one. Time to clean out the extra stash.

Am I that dumb? You didn't really say, so I'm going to assume a game-day condo is just that--a condo just for the game?? Regardless, it's a fabulous before and after!! Amazing what a good decorating eye can do for such a place. It's beautiful!

Holly said...

Well, it sure is cute, but buying a condo for football? Those are some dedicated fans!
