Shopping with Eddie

IMG_3801

You can just imagine how much fun we had! Yes, we did…a blast! There were over 30 of us who met up with Eddie and Jaithan on Saturday to shop at Scott’s Antiques Market. What fun to get to meet Eddie Ross in person. He is as fun and cute as you can imagine he would be, full of personality and life! Of course, I didn’t waste any time getting a pic and schmoozing with Eddie. IMG_3803

Everyone arrived in the January chill and I think we were all excited to be there. I met a couple of ladies who read my blog all the time and it was so much fun to meet them. Hello Melissa, Carrie, and another lady who I’ve forgotten her name, but thank you ALL so much for introducing yourselves to me. Please leave me a comment sometime! IMG_3806

My blog friend, Judy from Gracious Southern Living (holding the camera here) went with me and we just had the best time. We had to leave Birmingham around 5 a.m., but we were troopers and made it over there in plenty of time, wide-eyed and ready to shop. IMG_3804

I found out that many of us drove a few hours to get there. Here we all are listening to Eddie tell us about the morning.

IMG_3809

We decided to start with the outside, where there are tons of architectural items for sale. Lots of chippy old pieces and we all enjoyed looking around seeing what bargains we could find. IMG_3808

Old columns which I love. IMG_3807

Just lots of architectural things to be found. IMG_3812

Eddie showing what could be done with this piece. We all had our eyes on different things. IMG_3810

Me, I loved this cowhide chair. Isn’t it the coolest? IMG_3811

I did find a really neat architectural piece, which I have the perfect spot for and of course, I’ll share it with you when I get it in place. My hubby will not understand this shabby thing, but he’ll get over it. This piece was $55, which I thought was a pretty good price and it’s quite large. IMG_3815

Check out the vintage Christmas trees. Very cute, but at $55 a little steep. I told Eddie this reminded me of him.

IMG_3813

For you blue and white lovers, a whole row of platters. IMG_3814

And of course, tole platters always grab my attention. IMG_3818

These were very old wax impressions, which were really neat and would look very nice framed. IMG_3816

Eddie checking out the wares. IMG_3817

Eddie has a great smile and an infectious personality. IMG_3822

Do you remember this guy from Top Design? Kerry, a designer who lives in Atlanta, joined us and he was SO much fun!

IMG_3819

Vintage eggs and Birdsnest prints. IMG_3820

Cloche, anyone?

IMG_3825

And I always have to price the Staffordshire dogs. This pair was $150, a steal the seller told me! IMG_3823

Eddie, doing his thang….

IMG_3824

Vintage buttons in this booth. IMG_3828

Furniture galore, you can find just about any style you can imagine, at all price points. IMG_3827

Loved this chippy green. IMG_3826

As well as this English chest.

IMG_3830

Pretty vignette of garden architecture. IMG_3829

You just want to take everything home with you. IMG_3831

This was a metal bergere chair, which we thought was interesting. We were joking with Kerry about it bringing back memories of the chair competition they had on Top Design. IMG_3833

We all parted around noon and Judy and I went to have lunch at the food court and Eddie, Jaithan and Kerry joined us and we had the best time just chatting it up and getting to know them better. Eddie has some exciting things coming up, so you’ll have to stay tuned to his blog to find out all the scoop. The guy is so talented and SO energetic and I know is going to go far with whatever he gets involved in. It’s bound to be fun!

We had an absolutely wonderful day and I’m so glad we got in on the fun! Thanks Eddie and Jaithan for the great day and memories, I’m sure we will all take home with us. Til next time, remember the Southern Belles!

WHAT A THRILL THAT TRIP MUST HAVE BEEN!!! I felt like I was right in the middle of all of that, Rhoda, with your great photos! Eddie looks like he was having a ball, too. I loved all of those items you selected to share with us---I'm really looking forward to seeing where you put your purchase!

Also, it was so much fun to review all of the many home redo projects you tackled this year---I remember seeing most of them!

Best wishes for a Happy New Year--it looks like a good one for you so far! Dana

Hi, Rhoda!

Phillips Phamily Mama here. I really enjoyed meeting you and Eddie yesterday! I bet you had so much fun with him. He really was full of energy.

You did such a great job taking pictures. I just took pictures of the things I wanted to remember to go back and get, so I didn't end up with many.

I did find a set of four dining chairs. He was asking $400 for the set, but at Scott's you always say, "Is this the best you can do?" He said, "Of course not!" I got the set of Louis XVI side chairs for $300!"

The main building definitely has the better prices. The North building thinks a lot of itself! But you can always strike a deal...

Come over to visit at Phillips Phamily Phive; I've got a few pictures from yesterday, even one with us and Eddie. And we look right cute!

Can't wait to see how you use your architectural piece!

Hey girl! Yep, it was s-o-o-o much fun there and also the fellowship of us talking a mile a minute on the way over and back...plus stopping at QT's!

My e-mail is not working tonight so I'll just leave a short comment here. Thanks for the links, and go to simplyseleta.typepad.com (Eddie's recommendation to us)...you will die! Her blog is wonderful.

I'll let you know later about my next trip I'm planning to Scotts, daughter Shannon wants to go get some things for her house so we may be sneaking over there in April, more on that later.

Spent a lot of time today trying to "place" my pieces and I think I've finally got an idea of where to put all of them. I hope I can post some finished pics soon.

Love ya!

Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality said...

Hi, all! Some of you were asking about prices at Scott's. Well, they can be a bit pricey for an antique market. There are 2 huge buildings full of stuff. One is more pricey than the other & has more furniture. The furniture tends to be more French, Belgian, & English, but you can find lots of different styles here. I've been going to Scott's probably 10 years or more & it's actually been a few years since I was there. I found my 2 favorite antique French pieces here at Scotts about 6 years ago.

As far as the dishes & small items, they can definitely be pricey. You're not going to find flea market or thriftstore pricing on most things. Lots of expensive tableware, dishes, silver, etc. but not too many really great bargains on all of that, so I'll stick to my yardsale prowess for that. I looked around to see if there was any deals on creamware or stoneware, but nothing jumped out at me on that either.

The very best prices are outside in the South bldg. that's where we started & that's where the best bargains can be found. I found my arch. piece out there & Judy found several pieces too that you'll have to go check out on her blog later. The architectural pieces are plentiful, you just have to bargain with the dealers & that's part of the fun. Overall, it's a really fun market & you can find some pretty good deals on furniture if you scope it out.

Thank you ALL for stopping by!

Oh, I should have gone! I thought about it, just for the sheer fun of meeting Eddie and Jaithan. Had I known it would have been a blogger fest, I would have done it!
