What a fun and fast weekend we had with my family in Georgia celebrating my dad’s 82nd birthday (which is the 14th)! Whew, I’m tired out just thinking about it. We went over on Friday and first off, me and mom went over to my sister’s house. They have just finished adding some more hardwoods and getting all them refinished, as well as the house being painted inside, in hopes of putting their house on the market soon. They have dreams of down-sizing, moving to a condo or smaller house with less upkeep and space. Since they no longer have kids at home, their house is entirely too big for 2 adults and 2 dogs. But, in the meantime they’ll enjoy the improvements even if the house doesn’t sell anytime soon. I’ll show you inside my sister’s house in another post. I’ve shared the outdoor areas before in previous posts, here last Mother’s Day, since we usually have our family gatherings on their spacious porch and enjoy the beautiful backyard they’ve created.
So, me, mom and my sister, Renee, hit up one of the new antique malls that I had not been in since I moved, called Queen of Hearts. I’ll share that in another post later too. Lots of goodies in there to see.
In the meantime, my sis and I hit up a few yardsales (all a bust) and one huge estate sale in Marietta that was quite amazing. Oh my, the lady that lived in this house must have loved to keep everything, I have never seen so many old, vintage and antique things in one estate sale, all in great condition. Of course, with estate sales, come a higher price. This sale had started on Friday, so by the time we got there on Saturday, everything was 1/2 price. Now, that’s even better. I tried to find something I had to have and took way too few pics, but ended up leaving empty handed.
Most all of these things were all out in the garage. The above old chippy white vanity was marked at $300, but would have been $150 on the 1/2 price day. Still too much, I think. That old scale sitting on it would have been $9, but I didn’t get it, I have to think about everything I bring in my house now.
Have you ever seen an old pram like this? Take 1/2 off the price for what they were asking. I think they are planning to have another Finale sale at some point to clear out even more. I can’t even imagine how much stuff must have been in there on Friday, cause on Saturday, the house was still packed with stuff! Those estate sale people really try to charge too much for things and I just don’t think people are willing to pay the price.
Child’s tricycle, would have been $30 at 1/2 price. Cute, cute!
I think you can read the prices on these little children’s chairs. They were all adorable.
Now, my sister fell in LOVE with this mahogany (late 1800’s) antique round table with 5 leaves and 8 chairs. Half price was $1900, which really is a steal, considering you’d pay that for some new junk that is nothing like this quality. There was a sideboard, china cabinet and a couple other matching pieces. You can imagine how beautiful this was and how well-made this old furniture is. I wish she could get it and she may try to see if they mark it down anymore. It’s a beauty! She has just purchased some other great furniture pieces on Craigslist (which I’ll show you in a later post), so may not be able to get this right now, but boy, is it gorgeous.
This vintage outdoor patio set would have been $55 for all of this on the 1/2 price day. Now that’s a great deal!
And if you’re in the market for an old Cadillac, this 1957 model was for sale too. I didn’t look at the pricetag on this one, but I don’t think it was 1/2 price.
So, I didn’t buy anything! Even though there were a couple things that caught my eye, I decided to pass. I did see a beautiful Italian white marble based lamp that would have been $37 at 1/2 price and I thought long and hard about that, but ended up leaving it. I love those old marble and alabaster base lamps and have seen them for much more money at antique shops. I probably should have bought it! Ahh, regrets. And I didn’t even get a pic of it.
I did get my sister interested in starting a white creamware collection of her own. She already has one white soup tureen, which she was going to give me, then changed her mind when she decided to start her own collection. And that’s great, I love it so much and I know she’ll enjoy her collection too. She found all these pieces at the antique mall that I’ll post on later. And she found a beautiful large oval platter at the estate sale, that I didn't get a pic of. That’s all we came away with, but it’s a great start to her creamware collection!
She found a gorgeous hutch on Craigslist, which is now sitting in her garage waiting to paint. Even though this pine is really pretty, it doesn’t go so much with her house, so she is going to use my painting method and paint it black. She may leave the back of the shelves pine and paint the rest black. That’s a great look. And the price on this beauty? $150!! I’m SO jealous and love this piece. I’d love to find something like this too, although I’d have to get rid of something to make room. I can’t wait to see it when she’s finished. She’s really gotten the bug to buy some nice second hand pieces and make them work for their home. Wait til you see 2 of the Craigslist things she scored! I'll show you that in a later post of her house.
So, let’s get the party rolling this week and see what all YOU have found! You know how to play, so please sign up with Mr. Linky and be sure to add a link back to THIS post so that all your readers can join the party and see everyone’s finds.
And please, please put your permalink (your thrifty post url) and NOT just your blog url. I continue to have to go in and fix the links on about 12 of the links every single week!! Help a girl out!
Thanks for playing this week and have fun visiting everyone! Like I’ve mentioned, it’s getting harder and harder for me to visit all of you, but I try!

I love that round table!!! The weather has been scorching hot so hubby and I decided only to go to the stores versus garage sales. I so enjoy stopping by your blog. :)
Hi Rhoda !
I hope everyone gets thier links right this week....maybe some people don't get it ??
Anyway, thanks for being the hostess. I might add that you do typically get around to all the posts ...I post on another site for another MeMe and the hostess has probably only commented one time on any of my posts....but, I love all the other contributors, so

Hi Rhoda
I agree abous some sales just being too high priced.
But I would of bought that patio set for $55 in a second! it suits my style perfectly.
Wow!! That vanity is amazing. I love, love, looove super chippy paint, worn out pieces like that.
Great finds! I just blogged about another kind of thriftshopping, namely in my in-laws basement. I hope that qualify's for your blogparty too.
Hey, Rhoda! Well....I had posted on Friday that I would share my yard sale finds on your post today, but I don't know what type of url you need!! Sorry! The only url I have is just my blog. I'll just post there unless you know what I need to do!!I need to know more about this computer stuff!!
Glad you had a fun time in GA!! Love that outdoor furniture!
Hugs,
Susan
Rhoda--looks like you had a great time with friends and family! I think I entered everything correctly this week--yippee! Thanks again for hosting such a fun blog party.
S in TX
I'm sorry you didn't get anything Rhoda, but your sister sure did good! She's got a great start to her creamware, and the hutch is fantastic! I love that vintage patio set. I wish you had gotten that, so I could visit it through your blog!
Oh my gosh, I LOVE that patio set! Too stinkin cute! Definitely would have been a good deal if that car was 1/2 off! Have a great week!
What wonderful things, Rhoda! I'm looking forward to seeing your sister's home.
The thought keeps crossing our minds, to sell. It will be a daunting task, I know that for certain!!
So many gorgeous things at the estate sale, but sometimes they really are priced a little too high, but they really were lovely. Hugs, Marty
Beautiful but pricey things at that estate sale. Doubt I would have purchased anything either...
I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone found this week! I'm still not thrift shopping, can you belive that?! I have been getting little tools and things for my dollhouse project though.. Seems there is always a reason to shop somewhere!
Love, Kathi
Hi Rhoda,
It's fun browsing even if you don't get anything. I think long and hard before I pick anything new up. If I decide to add anything new to my home, something else just has to go. Glad you had a good time with family!!
Nancy
Love the patio set!
I've entered my link - though I still don't know how to make the nice links where you can change the name rather showing the whole URL.
Love the vintage patio set .. that I would have had to take home. Can't wait to see what your sister does with her Craigs list treasures.
Hugs,
Debbie
I almost forgot.. Happy 82nd Birthday wishes to your Dad.
Hugs,
Debbie
I love that mahogany table; it would look so good in my dining room!
Jane
Rhoda,
You made me laugh at all the times you said you would "post that on another post later." You sure are going to have lots of posts for us to look at.
I love the vintage patio set. I have been looking for one like that. Maybe I will run up on a deal like that one!!
What cool stuff. Love the patio set!!!!!
Can you go back and get that tricycle for me? LOL, I have decided that I am doing using bicycle accents in my study.
Oh dear!
I had my first experience with an estate sale this weekend...I saw a huge sign for it on HWY 119 in Pelham on Friday advertising a sale for Saturday...there was a nice house and I was so excited and made plans to go! So Saturday when I get there and see people swarming about, I think Oh wow! This is gonna be great! ....so I walk through the yard and see that there are maybe 25 pieces of junk (not the good kind!0 sitting in a gazebo! I was SO disappointed....they had the house taped off so people couldn't go in it! I wanted to go "Hello! Not an estate sale!" Anywho! Just wanted to share...I'm glad you had better luck than me! That's some great stuff! Thanks for sharing!
My Sister has a wicker prim, that belonged to my Father's side of the family. I agree about estate sale prices. I went to a sale few years ago that even tho the owner was a collector - there was no way everything was kept in that house. Turns out the a people handling the sale brought a lot of extras to try and sell there also. I guess they can do that.
Hi Again Rhoda,
I just remembered to put the link back to your party on my blogpost this week. Sorry!
I think everyone should come to your party too, it is just about my favorite part of blogging, next to making internet friends.
Oh I have to tell you I am in LOVE with that vintage patio set! I would have paid the $55.00 in a HEARTBEAT!!!!!
I love the old wicker pram and the patio set reminds me of growing up in the 70's. Love it!
What a deal on that patio set and pretty too!
That is one gorgeous round table and chairs, hope your sister is able to go back and get it if she is still wanting it.
Regrets- thats too bad that about the soup tureen.
Thanks for hosting the party once again, it is so much fun to see what everyone finds.
How fun! My mom had a vanity exactly like that when I was a kid. Have a great week! :)
Wow, that stuff was way overpriced! At least you had a fun time.
I have the Queen of Hearts in Alpharetta on my list of places to go tacked on my bulletin board! Can't wait to see the pictures!
I actually went to an estate sale Friday but the prices were just too crazy! I picked up a glass knob and it said 25 on it so I asked is that 25 cents? No 25 dollars!!!
Your sister's hutch is amazing! It's going to look so great painted!
Manuela
The patio set is too cool, Rhoda. It's all GREAT! Thanks for hosting.
Hi Rhoda,
Sorry you didn't find reasonably-priced vintage treasures to bring home from the estate sale this time. Thanks for sharing the experience with us though. I bet you'll have better luck next time!
Bill
Rhoda,
I can't believe you walked away from all the good deals. But I do understand. It doesn't take long to get overloaded!
Your sister's hutch is gorgeous!
Rhonda
I would not have been able to say no to the outdoor vintage set!:)
Chrissie Grace
Hi Rhoda,
I am so excited for my first Thrifty Treasures party! I loved your post and I bet that hutch your sister found will be gorgeous! Thanks for being our hostess! Cindy
Can't wait to see what you say about Queen of Hearts! I went there this weekend, too. Saw about ten things I COULD HAVE taken home! Ha! I love your ability to walk away. And your willpower!
Whenever you come back to Atlanta, another good place to go is Olivia Morgan. It's another antique mall near the intersection of Johnson Ferry Road and Lower Roswell Road. Great sales!
Glad you had a fun weekend!
Hi Rhoda - loved all the things you and your sister saw this weekend!!
First time participant here with a very long post!! Took me FOREVER to get it all done!! Thanks for hosting this -
My experience w/estate sales has not been good. Stuff is always overpriced. I've had opportunity to see the sales people mark the really good stuff up so high in the beginning to avoid the stuff being sold only to mark it way down at the last minute to let their family and/or friends get it at a steal.
I love that garden furniture!
I loved just about every photo you shared with us, and yes some shops are way to high with their prices, what a shame... I love a good bargain, and the hunt for one is just as fun... Hey a Huge Happy Birthday to your Dad.... have a great week.
Hugs;
Alaura
Was it the Queen of Hearts Antiques in Alpharetta? If so, I used to go there when we lived in Atlanta.
It sounds like you had a fun visit.
Hugs!
Kat
Hi Rhoda!
I am a new blogger, and I only know how to post my blog Url. Sorry. Looks like they had a lot of good things there. Sorry you weren't able to find something you liked.
Hi Rhoda,
Looks like you had a great weekend and helped your sis make some good buys.
Have a great week.
Beth
Hi Rhoda,
I really enjoy your blog!I'm thrifty girl.
I have a question for you, if you have time to answer me: what is it your method to paint in black????
I'm sorry for my english, I'm from Roumania, but I live in US for couple a months ago!
Best wishes for you!
Ana Thomas vs TARTORAS
I always look forward to Mondays to see what everyone gets over the weekend. Thanks for hosting this
Hi, Rhoda! You can delete the link on #68. I kept getting these error messages, and then when I refreshed, for some reason it also posted my link to the Nester's party on #68. So sorry about that! Mr. Linky hates me.
So cool that you got your sister hooked on creamware too. :)
Even at half price I think the pricing was still high.
Love, love, love your sister's hutch! Good for her in finding some bargains.
Love reading your posts! And that hutch your sister bought for $150... what a great deal! It's gorgeous and I just love it! Thanks for sharing ...
Rhoda, you have me hooked on recycled stuff! I am planning to redecorate my house and guess how I'm going to get it done-one yard sale, thrift shop and craig's list at a time...lol
Hi Rhoda, I went antiquing this week too. Thanks for taking us along. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I must say, I really liked the retro patio set. It really looked in great shape. The antique dining table is beautiful too. Sometimes vendors will lower their price if you ask them. Your sister's hutch it beautiful. Gotta love Craigslist! It will be stunning painted black. Hope you're having a great Monday!
What lovely things! I'd love to have been at that sale too... Darn...I loved your sister's hutch too. It is fabulous.
Blessings,
Spencer
I have been after a wrought iron outdoor set, where was I?
Have you seen the china cabinet makeover here:
http://www.inthefunlane.com/
Pretty amazing!!
What incredible things you found! That table is gorgeous. I hope your sister gets it.
Rhoda, what beautiful things your sister got for her home. I LOVE that pine hutch! It will be stunning painted black, but I don't know if I could paint it.
I also enjoyed seeing the pics of the estate sale. I love that pram and the child's chairs. So cute! I have seen doll prams like that sell for up to $400.00. Was it a dolls' pram or for a real baby?
The patio furniture was a fantastic price! Would love to have that.
Have a great week!
You are SO, SO sweet to help me out!! I think I did it the right way!! I am so excited to learn something new on this computer!!
Love ya!
Susan
My husband would love that car. I love the vanity.
What a beautiful old pram - hope it found a good home!
Rhoda, That dining table is GORGEOUS!!! The pine hutch set is beautiful...I would hate to paint that, but I understand the pine won't match...still..it's a beauty! Can't wait to see more of your sisters house! Nancy
wow on those prices, sheesh.
That car is amazing though.
I can't believe anyone would give up that pine hutch. It is gorgeous and I have seen those pieces painted---awesome!
I can also say those prices were awfully high. In our area---smalltown Iowa---things gotta be cheap or we call them 'antique store' prices! I do think I would've grabbed up that patio set though. It was reasonable and appeared to be in great shape--very retro chic!!
I am going to visit often and maybe even join in the fun!
I loved the cream ware! I have some little old chairs that came out of a church. I better hang on to them. They are ladder back child chairs.
Hi Rhoda, Thank you for coming over to Marty's blog to look at my seasonal changes in my kitchen for Met. Monday. I have a new appreciation for all of you wonderful blogging ladies. You have done a wonderful job on your blog and I really enjoy the thrift store shopping. You have found so many wonderful pieces and you seem to always find the perfect spot in your home, which by the way is lovely. It was so nice to see your name there, hugs Kathysue
I thought about you when I was at the beach last week. I kept thinking that what I'd really like to do was go thrifting! Alas, I didn't make it happen. But one of these days I'm just going to take myself a "Rhoda Day." Meanwhile, I'll drool over the things you find. This week, I'm drooling over that hutch of your sister's. Wow! That is a beauty.
Have a great day!
Hi Rhoda....
I just LOVE that hutch of your sisters, what a beauty !!!
Would love to know what they were asking for that car, my Dad used to have one !!!
Happy Birthday to your Daddy...July 14 hmmm same day as ME :)
All the best,
Kathy :)
Rhoda, I loved that little antique tour. You are right about estate sales - they are more expensive! By the way, I have been collecting some white/cream pieces, too, after seeing how beautifully you display they. They just look clean and fresh and timless. Can't wait to see your sister's home tour! Linda
What great fun!. I would have bought the patio chairs, they are wonderful.
A very fun post.
Take care,
Elizabeth
Wow! I wish we had yard sales and estate sales like the ones you post about, Rhoda. Estate sales are high in this area too.
Have a good day!
Sandra
awesome stuff you got there!
Im glad I wasnt there because I think I would have been in some trouble. I would have wanted way too much. I loved the little bike. Too sweet. Glad you had a fun time with the family!
Love that patio set! $55.00 what a steal.
I love that old vanity and those little chairs and tricycle are to cute! I would of wanted it all, but i'm a cheapskate, lol! Love your sisters craigslist find, I love craigslist! Thanks for hosting, Love doing this every week!
What a fun estate sale to poke around in. Don't you just hate the high prices they ask at estate sales....geeze~ Even half off, I betcha there was a lot left to sell.
I love to visit antique stores and mostly I don't buy a lot but I love to wander around and look. I do better at yard sales or the Goodwill. So much fun to look and browse around. Love to find what I can to redo, paint or mess with. Thanks for sharing.
Pam
Rhoda, I love the hutch and buffet that your sister bought. Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a sweet comment. This is the first time I have participated in your Monday party. Thanks so much for it, it was lots of fun. Hugs ~cindy s~
I'm in love with that dining set, and she gets it, too! :-) And that outdoor furniture is a lot like a hige set my grandma had...that went at her estate sale a few years back in like two seconds flat.
I LOVE Queen of Hearts Antiques. I was so happy when they opened the one up on Canton Hwy in Marietta. But, now that I'm Carrollton I'm an hour away. :-(
I love that vintage patio set too. That was a steal.
I noticed recently that one of my neighbors has a pram just like that one shoved in their garage!
